Applies to the SMS Backup Android app.

Your privacy is very important to us. This Privacy Policy ("Policy") applies to your use of our mobile application (the "Application"), the related services we provide ("Services"), and this website. Please read this Policy carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

What information we collect

Personal information

We do not collect, share, sell, send, store or use any personal information while you download or use our products, except the personal information you submit when you email us, send an error report, or participate in online surveys and other activities.

Personal information you submit is used only to: help us develop, deliver and improve our products and services; and manage online surveys and other activities you've participated in.

Non-personal information

Non-personal information refers to information that cannot be linked to a specific individual, such as device type, device manufacturer, operating system version, application usage frequency, and memory size.

We may collect non-personal information from time to time to better understand users' needs, fix bugs, and improve our products and user experience. If non-personal information is ever combined with personal information, we treat the combined data as personal information.

How we use your information

Personal information: since we do not collect personal information, we do not use it in any way beyond what's described above.

Non-personal information: we may use non-personal information for internal purposes, to measure usage patterns, to understand trends among our users, and to improve the Application. We do not combine non-personal information with personal information (for example, combining a name with a device identifier).

How your information may be disclosed

Personal information: we do not store personal information and therefore do not disclose it.

Non-personal information: we may disclose non-personal information for any purpose, without combining it with personal information.

This website's analytics and cookies

This section covers smsbackupexport.com only, separately from the app described above. This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to see which pages are visited and which links and buttons are used, so we can improve the site, and optional campaign measurement to understand which ad campaigns lead to a Google Play install. Both are enabled automatically outside the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland. In those regions, and when the visitor's country is unknown, both stay off until you choose them. You can review or withdraw that choice at any time with the link in the footer.

When analytics is enabled, Google Analytics sets cookies and sends page-view and event data (such as the page visited, links or buttons clicked, and general location derived from IP address) to Google. This does not include SMS/MMS message content and is not linked to your app account or purchases. When campaign measurement is enabled, the site may store ad campaign parameters such as a gclid or UTM values in session storage, forward them in the Google Play link's referrer value, and allow Google to set advertising cookies for this measurement; this does not personalize ads. When campaign measurement is enabled and no campaign parameters are available from this visit or the current browsing session, the Google Play links instead carry a referrer value naming the website you came from, or the app identifier your browser reports when you came from an app, if any (for example utm_source=chatgpt.com, or google for a Google search; never the full address), or otherwise a fixed value saying the install came through this site and which button was used (for example utm_source=website), so the app's analytics can count where installs come from. Rejecting or withdrawing either choice clears the corresponding cookies (and, for campaign measurement, the stored campaign values and these referrer values on Play links) immediately.

Google Drive (optional scheduled backups)

If you turn on scheduled backups, the app can optionally upload your backup files to your own Google Drive account, using your Google sign-in. This requires your explicit permission and uses Google's restricted drive.file scope, so the app can only see and manage files it created itself, never your other files or folders in Drive. Backup files uploaded this way are stored in your own Google account, not sent to us or to any third party we control.

Device permissions

Depending on your device, the app may request the following permissions. Once granted, a permission can be revoked at any time from your device settings; doing so may affect the app's ability to function as described.

SMS/MMS permission

Used to read SMS and MMS messages on your device so they can be exported and saved locally as a backup or PDF.

When you choose to restore a backup, the app writes the backed-up SMS messages into your device's message storage. Android requires the app to be selected as your default SMS app for this operation. Restore supports SMS only, not MMS or RCS messages.

Contacts permission

Used to look up contact names so conversations can be labeled with a name instead of only a phone number.

California residents

We do not disclose your information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes unless you first affirmatively agree to that disclosure. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for direct marketing purposes; contact us below and reference "California Disclosure Information."

Sensitive information

Please do not send us, or disclose through the app or this site, any sensitive personal information (for example, information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, health, sexual orientation, or criminal history).
